Grandest of Visions
We are not alone. This week the people of Earth were given a vision of the universe. A vision of belonging to something greater than ourselves. I hope more people will reflect on this vision and appreciate the cosmic perspective. I hope people are inspired and curious about their place in the cosmos and pursue to know and understand the universe. I hope people connect with their starstuff, inside and out, and imagine the possibilities. I hope more people embrace science, engineering, art, and everything else that has made our endeavors possible.
The JWST images and data this week provided us with a glimpse of things to come. Like all that has come before, all that we have learned and discover so far, we can say with certainty that we have barely begun to scratch the surface. The universe is a constant source of awe. We are not alone in our search for the truth. We are not alone in the unraveling of the cosmos and our humanity. We are not alone as we begin the next frontier, touch the stars and go beyond.
“The Cosmos is all that is or was or ever will be. Our feeblest contemplations of the Cosmos stir us — there is a tingling in the spine, a catch in the voice, a faint sensation, as if a distant memory, of falling from a height. We know we are approaching the greatest of mysteries.”
