10 years of wonder, here’s to another 10 years
On this day 10 years ago, the discovery of the Higgs Boson aka “God Particle” was announced, using the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. After several decades of searching per the theory, this historical breakthrough went beyond the standard model of particle physics opening doors to new physics. The Higgs is responsible for giving mass to particles, to the universe itself.
Our understanding of dark matter for example is intertwined with our understanding of the Higgs. This is the tip of the iceberg. We have so much to learn about the nature of reality. The last 10 years alone have been an ongoing journey of learning from the Higgs. I can still remember the excitement I felt 10 years ago today. It is milestones like this that are worthy of celebration for all of humanity. Happy 10th Higgs Anniversary! Cheers!
